It kills me. At what point do you decided that what ever you are doing is either not working or not working anymore. But, what I am learning is there is just not enough education out there to let people know that changing a workout, that is stagnant and not producing results, is EXACTLY what needs to happen. There are several ways to change your workout. You can do a complete revamp and change everything. Or, you can change your workout without leaving your comfort zone and the routine you are accustom to doing. Total Revamp: Do a 180. If you have been doing full-body workouts, break them up. If you have been lifting heavy and maxing out, pull the weight down and push more reps out. If you always start with flat bench, move it to the end. If you have been walking on the treadmill, get out side and run sprints. If you have been doing sprints, hop on the stair-mill for 30 min. Make a change and make it drastic…just don’t be stupid. Don’t go out in 100 degree weather and run for an hour if you have never run. Making drastic changes is not about maxing out those changes in the beginning. You have to ease into it or you may end up getting hurt. Hurt bad. Be smart. If you are still pretty far away from your goal weight, you DO NOT want to start doing aggressive plyometrics. You will hurt your joints, and it is not necessary. To revamp your cardio, try doing 30-45 seconds of ‘harder’ cardio and 2-3 minutes of moderate recovery, or if you are only doing 20-30 minutes, try upping it to 45 minutes or add another day. Getting out of your comfort zone is hard, but it should be easier than treading water for years. It doesn’t have to occur all at once. It has been this long already; you can get your feet wet and ease in. Change one aspect. Reorder all of your exercises. Then change your weight/reps, then make big changes and do new exercises. Keep Your Comfort: If progressing to completely change your workout makes you break out in a cold sweat, don’t worry. It isn’t the only option! You can keep your group classesor stay on the circuit you are comfortable with, just make some adjustments. Up the weight (YOU ARE NOT GOING TO GET “BIG”) and lower the repetitions. You can take less time between sets to help increase the intensity. Either way, you have to start putting more into your workout to get more out of your workout. Staying stagnant will produce stagnant results and leave you in the same clothes you started with…leave you with the same reflection you were trying to get rid of in the first place. Stay Strong~~!!!
