Barack Obama will seek to corral panicked Democrats and win back disaffected voters this week in the debut State of the Union address of a presidency dragged down by crushing economic gloom.

Suddenly, Obama is at a turning point, after Republicans snatched away the Democratic super-majority in the Senate and with his own party now viewing November's mid-term congressional elections with a sense of doom.

The State of the Union address, beamed simultaneously on US television networks and cable news stations, offers a president his best annual chance to bypass the media and speak directly to Americans.

With a quarter of his term expired, Obama will step up in the House of Representatives on Wednesday night saddled by diminished approval ratings, averaging around 50 percent, and with his health reform plan on life support.

With unemployment at 10 percent, Obama's bond with the US public is frayed, and he is losing his hold on crucial independent voters.

I dont know much about politics, but i do believe obama can not turn the USA around on a dime. Remember we had 8 fking years of Bush... the biggest fkn idiot of all time. BUSH got us in this mess and everyone expects obama to clean it up overnight. I do agree obama is fkn up here and there and i am NOT a fan but i do believe he needs time to fix Bushes fk ups.

hmm you sound like a man who hears what others have said.. but the fact that the economic downturn was caused by overly loose loaning practices to people that had no money to repay loans. and when banks loan money and then get none back well it is only a matter of time before .. well they stop loaning money.. with that being the beginning of a very large chain of events .. well it is very common (but obviously not common enough) the financial crisis was caused by bad lending practices. But why were banks making such lousy loans in the first place. well the banks were told that every american deserves a home by the government.. and that the federal government would reimburse the banks for the loans of they were not made good by the borrower. If this wasnt bad enough the banks were bound by law to do just this. So this is what they did. It doesnt take a genious to see that if you are told by your wife to give her sister money full well knowing that the sister doesnt have the money to pay you back that it is just a bad idea. Ah but if the wifes dad, who has plenty of money says go ahead and give her the money and if she doesnt pay you back then he will give you the money she owes.. well who wouldnt do it. well if you do this over and over an over .. eventually the wifes dad will run out of money.
well when the banks didnt get the money then they came to the government for the promise that was made to them to help them out, well the government then saw a prime time to do something that should never have happened.. they did what they said and gave the banks the money to help but then made them laughing stocks and turned the american people against the "evil" people that helped them get a home just a few years ago.. even though they shouldnt have. With this new found fuel the government was able to take control and write the "rules" for the banks.. effectively nationalizing the banking system. oh I forgot to mention that the "every American deserves a home" was started under Clinton and was opposed by republicans. and there is a record and videos showing the opposition to this plan.

Now since "bailout" syndrome was in full swing and seeing how easily it could be done by "criminalizing" the very people that tried to stop the loose lending practices of the past.. more money was wasted than could have ever been imagined.

Now lets move on to what else went wrong.

Obama ran a VERY effective campaign.. NO ONE can say he didnt.. if Fuzo wants to contest this he can sit at home and pretend Obama isnt the president. But back to my point. Obama's campaign consisted of going to every corner of the USA and telling EVERYONE that the economy is the worst in the history of the planet and it is only going to get worse. EVERY day he came out saying how "dire" and how "devastating" the economy is. well again it doesnt take a rocket scientist to figure this one out. when you are in the running to be the most powerful man in the country or possibly the world, people tend to listen to what you say. And what he was saying was, you have a job now but there is no telling how long you are going to have that job you may lose it today you may lose it tomorrow and even after I am elected it is still going to take time to tell if you are still going to have a job. Well when people hear this they start to think "well if I may not have any money then I better start saving for when I may lose my job". And guess what everyone did. they started saving. Now this may seem like a grand idea at first but in turn people quit buying things to save money. When people quit buying things then that means people quit selling things..when things dont get sold the retailer quits ordering them, when the orders quit coming in from the retailer that means that the transport system doesnt get paid for hauling them and that the manufacturer quits ordering the raw materials..again transport is harmed. along with everyone involved in every stage of handling of this one product.. well times that by millions. well that means that they all start laying people off because there is no need for them without people selling ordering or manufacturing the products. THis in turn means people out of work and not making money.. this is even worse than saving because even if you wanted to do or buy something you still cant. well you guessed it.. this affects retail, transport , and manufacturing even further.. resulting in you guessed it EVEN MORE people unemployed.

now one might argue that the power to do this is a bit blown out of proportion but let me ask you this. if you were told you didnt have job tonight how much money are you spending untill you know that you have another source of income? if you say it wont affect you then you are either very financially secure or irresponsible. So without knowing it, the people that are suffering the most are suffering because they did what they were told to do by the one man they thought was out there trying to help them and actually facilitated the decline of the economy.



ok.. that is very abridged version of what caused this. now if you would please let me know what you feel bush did to put us in this tough economic time I will listen.. but to say that he is completely without fault would also be an error but to say that "all of bush's fuck ups did this"... well you obviously just dont have a grasp on how basic economics work.

and yes the war is taking money we dont have. and some would argue that the soldiers need to be home. But what will happen if they all do come home? THOUSANDS AND THOUSANDS more coming home to a country with no place or means to support them. and I am guessing anyone that disagrees with me feels we are in other countries for oil.. so I will humor them and say if we abandon all of the new found oil we now have control over then the price of petroleum products will skyrocket.

Bush did not get us in this mess thats a typical liberal statement and I dont know if you are one or not but the statement alone is what liberals say. Blojama made it even worse and quadrupled the debt bush had. What people and liberals or dems tend to forget that it was a democratic controlled congress that approved bush's stuff so if your going to blame anyone blame congress which was controlled by the democrats thats a fact.And as far as blojama running a campaign again the people wanted change so bad that they fell for his lies which we all know now he's a complete waste of a president. ok man your sentence had an indirect clause and a direct clause both of which the subject of was obama, there was no coordinating conjuntion tying these two clauses together instead there was a subject put where it should have been. That subject was "bmad", thus inferring that the clauses were directed toward the subject in the sentence.

Yes, Bush was anything but fiscally conservative. The war could have been far better managed. We were dumping money into it, while some people are so bent over backwards because of the rights of terrorists.

The terrorists lost their rights the instant they flew 4 jetliners and rammed 3 of them into buildings (the other one into the ground) while killing almost 3,000 people.

Bush along with McCain did try shoving that amnesty bill down our throats in 2006, but the American public let them have it.

The Republican Party lost their way big time in 2006, and didn't learn their lesson in 2008. The damn bailouts were a joke, and so was TARP.

If those companies are too big to fail, then they are too big to exist! It is not upto the American public to bail them out if they are failing. If they can't pay their bills, etc, then they just need to be allowed to go under. Yes, some people will lose their jobs because of it, but that is what happens when entities get too big too fast.

The election in 2008 was about our disgust with Bush in his last few years in office, but the special election in Massachusetts was about our disgust with the government as a whole (not just the clusterfuck that the Obama administration has made).

Obama is trying to shove cap and trade down our throats. Especially in the midst of a serious recession. Cap and Trade will end up costing everyone money and it's based upon false science. The earth has been warming and cooling for eons. These are the same group of people who were bawling about the earth going into another ice age.

His health care "reform" bill is another atrocity. It's unconstitutional to have the government force everyone to buy a product/service. He claims that abortions won't be covered by federal funds, but I have no faith in that statement. It would be a violation of my first amendment rights to have abortion covered by a government-run health plan. Removing the boundaries preventing insurance from being purchased across state lines. Some folks are trying to compare health insurance/care with auto insurance. But that argument falls flat because if you don't drive, you don't need insurance. Auto insurance isn't to protect you; it's to protect others from you. Making Medicaid the basis for this reform bill is very unsettling. Both Medicare and Medicaid have been in the red for a long time.

Now, he wants a job stimulus plan passed! What the fuck was that $787B monstrosity he signed last year for? That is becoming a blank check for the government!

Locally, ARIA funds are being used to widen U.S. Highway 69 immediately north and south of I-435. I know that interchange needs work, but there's nothing about that that stimulates the economy. It affects the economy of Kansas City not one damn bit! It has not affected our unemployment one iota.

I did not vote for Obama in 2008 because I felt we would be affected by his actions, and those feelings are trying to become manifested as we speak! November 2010 and 2012 cannot come fast enough.
