The Best Muscle Building Foods

Muscle Building Food
When building lean muscle mass you want to keep you body in an anabolic state as much as possible. What is needed nutritionally is to maintain a positive nitrogen balance.

Let's take a look at what this means. Your muscles contain a larger amount of protein then your other body structures. High protein foods are composed of amino acids, all rich in nitrogen. Other foods lack sufficient nitrogen.

When you eat protein your digestive processes break it down into amino acids which then pass into the blood stream and are carried throughout your body. Your cells select the amino acids they need and use them in building new tissue.

Body proteins are constantly being broken down by enzymes in your cells, and if muscular growth is to be maintained, there must be sufficient amino acids available for immediate replacement.

This is what is meant by positive nitrogen balance, taking in more nitrogen then is lost by your body.

ONLY WHEN YOU SUPPLY YOUR BODY WITH ENOUGH PROTEIN OF EXCELLENT QUALITY CAN YOUR MUSCLES KEEP THEMSELVES IN CONSTANT REPAIR AND GROWTH.

The Best Muscle Building Foods
What are good foods for building muscle? Some excellent sources of protein are eggs, liver, kidneys, beef, fish, fowl, milk, yogurt, cheese, nuts, beans, peas and some grains (especially barley).

When cooking meat do not use too high a temperature or over cook it, as this harms the protein and makes it less usable.

Eat some good quality protein every 2 ½ to 3 ½ hours to put your body in a growth state. Take in a total of 1 ½ grams of protein per each pound of your body weight, every day.

Along with all the protein eat a good balanced diet consisting of the four basic food groups. Eat lots of fresh vegetables, raw or lightly steamed, do not over cook them as that will destroy the nutrients.
Avoid sugar such as candy, soda, cakes, pies, cookies, donuts and other highly refined carbohydrates. While these at first appear to give you energy, that fades away quickly and leaves you more tired then before. You are trying to build your body up, sugar will only tear it down.
