http://www.dailysquib.co.uk/?c=124&a=1317 LINZ - Austria - The Austrian version of Changing Rooms, Folterungräume, where the presenters redesign secret underground torture dungeons, has been a ratings success. The Austrian dungeon improvement show is a huge ratings hit and is already in its third season Austrian home improvement show Folterungräume has captured the Austrian nations penchant for keeping dungeons and torture chambers under their houses. Austria has a rich culture to draw from, for example, its glorious Nazi past during World War II and pioneering wonderful culinary dishes like Wiener Schnitzel and the gorgeous Apfelstrudel. It is only natural that the Austrian nation would also like to showcase its other cultural pastime - home torture dungeons. 'Home is where the dungeon is' The shows hosts Wolfgang Munterbatten and Claudia Hitler have shown Austrian families how to make their secret cellar dungeons even more agreeable. "In Austria we have a saying, 'keep it in the cellar' and sure enough a lot of families have dungeons and torture chambers where privileged family members can indulge their passion for torture," writes Scheisser Stuiber in Austria's Der Standard daily. The 'Changing Rooms' style show's producers aim to redecorate torture cellars to state of the art standards that can be replicated easily without too much expense. "Not every Austrian household has a torture chamber or secret dungeon but we want to make the luxury available to everyone. We designed an easy to produce dungeon which can never be detected and can hold a family of 12 for many years," says Gunther Hauser from production company NTV. "It is not illegal to have secret dungeons in your house and what you do in the privacy of your own home is up to you," said the Minister of the Interior Josef Himmler Strom when asked about the legality and morality of owning a home torture suite. There have been some high profile Austrian endorsements of the program like Josef Fritzl, Wolfgang Priklopil and Adolf Sphincter who have all appeared on the show. Last week in Linz, the show redecorated a home dungeon owned by a 67 year old father of 37 children and 234 grandchildren, Arnold Schwarzeweiner. The presenters even added airconditioning to the cramped space and a lovely floral patterned carpet for Arnold's 3 daughters and the 12 children he had fathered from them. The show ended with Mr Schwarzeweiner whipping his daughters in unison to the Bundeshymne. The show also has some very famous supporters in the US who have been singing the show's praises in Newsweek. American Vice President Dick Cheney and President George W Bush are all big fans as well as retired US State Torturer in Chief Donald Rumsfeld. Max Moseley, the Formula One Chief, also showcased his own secret dungeon in February, replete with sex slaves dressed as concentration camp victims. The show has been a great success in Austria and people are queuing up to have their dungeons and secret torture chambers featured. |
