Take a look around the forums, guys and gals come in all sorts of sizes and shapes, once again look at the pros - you see the same variance of genetics. As recent as the MrO we could see even the top level athletes in the sport have some distinct advantages over one another.
The point Im making is, so few of us have the genetics for 'quick gains'. The reality is it will be a slow and steady endeavor for most.
But it seems in our, I want it yesterday mentality, that has become a psycho social phenomenon of our current era and generation of up and coming rank beginners to the world of bodybuilding, that their is indeed
many shortcuts.
We have even perpetuated this with the sales and promotion of AAS, peptides, and other chems as the holy water of instant gratification.
So most upon being introduced to the forums, nag, beg and eventually gain access to the sources and the drugs (dont get me started on that!).
So now they have it in their hands, barely able to understand the function of these compounds let alone the application, and even if they did and had some sort of pro guidance on the usage...guess what?
AT BEST THEY ARE LOOKING AT SLOW AND STEADY GAINS!
Like most of us they probably possess average or even below average genetics for muscle gains...so they get impatient, up the dose, or cry foul the drugs are fake blah blah blah ad nauseaum.
Information is a much stronger and beneficial supplement than any you get off the shelf or through the black market and its free most of the time with no deleterious effects to your health.
I am in the group that possesses well above average genetics, I gained 60 lbs the first 2 years I trained without AAS or even many nutritional supplements, we didnt even have creatine back then.
I ate, trained hard and heavy and got sleep, it was that simple, and I didnt turn into a monster overnight.
It has been a slow, uphill climb for me just like it is for most, and I have above average genetics for muscle building...not pro level genetics, just good ones, most people are gonna be below this.
Once you put this into perspective and step back for a minute, its easy to see, that bodybuilding is an endeavor that requires living the lifestyle and a work ethic second to none.
Plenty of guys will bust ass in the gym, but whats more important is whats done
outside of the gym.
This is where true work ethic shows, can you be self disciplined to stay home and get the rest, or are you gonna go out and party, drink, smoke some dope, stay out til 4am and get up at 8am for work?
If thats the way you cut it thats fine, but dont complain in some post about gear, being fake or how your genetics are holding you down...bullshit...you are holding YOU down.
If your aim is to compete or at least have the physique of a top level amateur or pro, then you will buck down and live it.
You will need to prep all your meals and bring them with you, yes people will think your weird for this,.
You will have to turn down many social engagements, and the ones you do attend you will be THAT guy who says no thankyou to all sorts of snacks, and drinks that other people will endulge in simply because they are not part of your diet plan.
You will find that doing all these things right will usually only promote a small bit of growth, but at the end of several months those small gains will have added up to a bigger overall gain.
It is like erosion in reverse, slowly adding layers of fresh tissue a small bit at a time.
Once you come to accept these realities you will find that bbing is much easier to guage so far as gains are concerned and that you will be less impatient and more realistic about the gains you do get.
Eventually if you are consistent and persisitant will ALL the parts of bodybuilding in and out of the gym you will see amazing results and realize just how rewarding the sport is...those who work hard and are patient realize the reward is in the toil, knowing that you didnt quit where most others simply give up.
There are the freaks of our sport, Phil Heath and Kevin Levrone come to mind, but they are 1 in 100 million. They trained for 4-6 years and became Olympia contenders seemingly overnight....I warn you do not compare yourselves to them or you will be sorrily dissapointed, keep your eyes on your training and be realistic, you can get there but you must be PATIENT.
If you think high dosing AAS and jamming in whatever else into some kind of anabolic soup in the syringe is going to propel you above and beyond your genetics, get ready for 2 things, a wake up call full of disapointment and a wallet full of lint.
Stick it out an the gains will come, but they will come S-L-O-W-L-Y...there is not one secret, not any shortcut that hasnt been posted on the forums, read away and you will soon realize that gains are hard to come by when you do everything right, imagine what they will be like when its done half assed?
